VIDEO SESSION TWO
‘Understanding Addiction'

No one ever plans to become addicted. People from all backgrounds and within the church and your community experience addiction. Addiction has no boundaries in class, race or status.  It is anywhere and everywhere, and often it is so subtle that it goes without detection until it is too late.  In this session learn about the contributing factors in how addiction develops.  People often drink or use drugs to feel good, feel better, or do better - and for youth, it almost always begins coupled with curiosity or peer pressure. Understanding addiction is key and crucial in aiding in the prevention of drug use and in understanding when intervention is required for you or someone you love.

Everyone Plays a Role in the Life of an Addict

Honesty, authenticity, and transparency are key to recognizing the role within the family unit that one has played in the life of an addict; whether an enabler, the scapegoat, the hero, the mascot, or the lost child. Take inventory to discover how someone arrives at addiction and how others within close relationship may have contributed.  Explore what stability means to an addict - and how family dysfunction such as verbal, physical and emotional abuse contribute towards the actions of someone with addiction.  Getting to the root of the matter and taking a full inventory of why and how an addict is formed is all a part of the process to discovery, recovery and restoration.

VIDEO SESSION FIVE
What Does the Bible Say About Addiction?

The Bible warns about the dangers of intoxication, which can be interpreted as abuse of any substance that alters one’s mind, harms the body (whether physically or by hurting another member in the body of Christ causing one to stumble), and hinders the spirit. The Bible also says that bad company corrupts good character. During this session we explore creating healthy boundaries and identifying unhealthy friendships and toxic relationships. Lastly, the Bible also says that there is, “No temptation that has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability - and with the temptation he will also provides the way of escape (1 Corinthians 10:13-14).”Just as God worked in Steven’s life by taking him from his former addiction and misery and into his ministry now serving others - God can faithfully do for you too!
